Well fought Varun now gone forever

Who never said die never said never

You had the guts to challenge the death

Fought till the end till you had some breath

Never give up was your motto in life

And you lived it up till your final strife

You were the stuff that the legends are made

Saga of courage and valour displayed

Clicking of toast and chorus of cheers

No time for sorrow no time for tears

You cocked a snook when asked to jump

Got the jet back and raised your thumb

Humble in deeds and generous in smile

Lived your life without guilt or guile

You have flown off now into bluer skies

Leaving behind some moist eyes

But fly on son with your swagger and sway

For fighters don’t die they just fade away

You are up there with that glint and grin

Measuring the skies, yet some battles to win

Don’t worry for us we are fine and strong

You have taught us well how life goes on.

Maj Gen Abhi Parmar 

Author – Maj Gen Abhi Parmar VSM (Retd), was commissioned in Infantry (The Rajput Regiment) from IMA in Dec 1969.  He retired as General Officer and was part of his battalion in the 1971 war. He has served in Deserts, J & K, Sikkim and NE and also on various appointments in different Formation HQs and Training Establishments.  He was Director-General  Indian Golf Union (2009 – 2014). He is Chairman, “STRIVE”, Think Tank,  after retirement and pursuing his hobbies, Golf, travelling and writing.
